Background

Maya attended Kutztown Area School District, where she was in the same grade as Kirby’s younger brother, Beckham. She excelled academically, while her younger sister, Emma, became an Olympic-track cyclist.

Her father worked in marketing for a large pharmaceutical company, and her mother operated a small baby-swaddle business. Before that, her mother had taught elementary school at Wyomissing, where she once instructed both Taylor Swift and Kirby’s future girlfriend Anneke.

In 2021, Maya graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with departmental honors in Creative Writing for her original novel, Betweenity. She also founded FEM&M Magazine and served as its Editor-in-Chief for two years.

After college, she published Quiver, her debut poetry collection, and later joined Wolters Kluwer as an Associate Publisher.
